David Irons and I joined Steve Mlodinow on February 24th at the head of
Padilla Bay. It was incredible to see such a huge concentration of
Eurasian Wigeons. I would say that our tally of three hundred was a very
conservative number. We obviously were not seeing all the females and
there were several thousand more wigeons stretching a few miles further
south. We could not even speculate on numbers of Eurasian Wigeons
amongst the distant flocks. However, it may be that the Eurasian Wigeons
actually concentrate toward the north-end of Padilla Bay. It would be
interesting to find out.

In any event, it was a real treat to witness such a scene. I was hearing
more vocalizations from Eurasian Wigeons than American Wigeons during
our observations. Their single note call is distinctly different from
the two or three note American Wigeon call.

Go check it out and keep on the look-out for a Falcated Duck.
