Hi tweets,

Went down to the Union Bay Natural Area (aka UBNA or Montlake Fill) again this afternoon, and the very second I stepped across the bridge to the E-5 lot it started raining. Hard. I decided birds still gotta eat, and I could hear a number of Red-winged Blackbirds, American Robins, and Song Sparrows singing. Bushtits and Black-capped Chickadees too.

When I got over by the western most pond at about 4:30pm I stopped, just getting soaked in the wind and rain. Sure enough, I spotted a bird in a tree on the far side of the pond. I started going for my bins, but didn't have 'em out before I saw it sally forth and then back to the same perch. Yup, Say's Phoebe. Got the binoculars out and watched the bird for a couple of minutes. It seemed pretty miserable, and it was pretty miserable out, so I headed back to upper campus to do some homework. Still it was worthwhile to see this rare visitor for a few minutes. Cheers!
