Hello all,
Within the last week or so I have seen some
unhealthy-looking birds in my yard and was wondering
if anyone had any ideas as to what could ailing them.
There have been four birds in all: a rufous
hummingbird, a hairy woodpecker, a pine sisken and an
evening grosbeak. The woodpecker and the hummingbird
seemed to be wobbling or twitching their heads
uncontrollably, and thus would have trouble keeping
their bills in the same place when trying to eat. The
woodpecker was very approachable; it just stared at me
while I walked a few feet away from it. It also was
very ungraceful in flight and would hover around
things before it landed on them.
The finches were different: they both sat on the
ground with all their feathers ruffled, and again did
not seem too concerned about being approached, only
flying a few feet away if you got too close. They both
seemed to have very thick saliva (the grosbeak seemed
to have it all over his face), and were constantly
wiping their bills on the ground. They seemed to stay
mostly near water, frequently taking drinks. When they
would go to a feeder, the seeds would stick all over
their bills.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Isah Webb
