Greetings,
One of my native students told me that two swans were shot on the Chehalis Reservation. Her dad kept the swans in the freezer until the outside authorities could get them. (Culprits were caught and are being prosecuted.)

She was touched by the beauty of the swans and how sad the whole thing had been. For her graduation, she wants her dad to present her with a swan feather instead of (along with?) the traditional eagle feather. She isn't sure how they can get one. She asked me if any of the "birder people" would know. Any ideas? The presentation of a feather is a big deal for her and part of a VERY long tradition of acknowledging an important event.

Please reply off list.

Thank you,
Jan Watson
