Tweeters,

I had a Callipe Hummingbird here in Preston again today, May 2, 2008. The bird was very vocal and feeding on Salmonberry flowers and zooming up into the apple blossoms in my mini-orchard and a wild cherry tree (can anyone tell me the scientific name of our native cherry that is blooming so beautifully right now?). No fewer than 32 Evening Grosbeaks were eating Big Leaf Maple blossoms and willow buds in the same field. I know there people doing a King County big day today, but I couldn't get the phone I have listed for the birdbox to answer...darn - Calliope is a great bird for King County at any time.

I also saw at least 12 Garter Snakes today including 3 tiny tiny ones (less than 3 inches long - looking like big black worms!) that were all sunning themselves on a stump on the hillside just above the house.
