as friends arrived to pay respects to a friend and colleague, about 50 or so
vaux's swifts descended with the cloud cover to mix with violet-green
swallows from ground-level to about 35 feet up. it's been quite some time
i've seen swifts feeding this late in the day at ground level, and it was
quite a treat.

on the way to work, a great blue heron and an accipeter (probable cooper's
hawk, for size, mostly) were seen on the wing.

lastly, one of my fellow rangers showed me a picture of a northwest crow
with a warped beak... i know bud anderson handles raptor sightings, but i
don't know who handles non-raptor reports... help would be appreciated.
