Hello,

WESTERN TANAGERS are finally making a prominent appearance in my yard now. After seeing all the reports of plethoras of them, I wasn't sure whether I was missing out or due for a deluge, since so many of the reports were from further south. Yesterday I had a female, as well as a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK female which visited the feeder all day. At one point yesterday our little hawthorne tree sported a tanager, a grosbeak, and Yellow-rumped and Orange-crowned Warblers simultaneously, with a Wilson's in the next tree over. Perhaps not remarkable, but had a yard first in the form of a pair of BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS, doing some courting activity.

Today a male TANAGER showed up, chased a chickadee, sang in response to a robin, and hung around a bit before carrying on out of the yard. Also had at least 2 noisily calling WILSON'S WARBLERS today.

Also saw a pair of gorgeous Wood Ducks in Thornton Creek between 8th and Roosevelt Sunday afternoon; when I see these in Seattle are they often a product of Pilling's Pond? They seemed pretty tame. Lots of beaver activity and beaver counter-measures going on in that tract it appears.

Tanagers and warblers continue out my husband's office window off of Delridge near the steel mill and Yancy Park

Thanks,

Alyssa Sampson
