Hello,
While trying not to get lost on the trails at Pt. Defiance yesterday I had some pretty interesting encounters. First, by the Rhododendron garden I followed a Pileated Woodpecker around and got several pictures and a video. He was completely ignoring me while pounding on a stump less then 20 ft. away. Must be really used to people as he didn't seem to mind any of the joggers passing by. Saw several other regular species including what I'm thinking is an Orange Crowned Warbler. This was the first I've seen this small yellow bird and thought I noticed an orange head. It wasn't a Tanager but was about the size of a Chickadee. I have one picture but its useless in identifying it.
Afterwards I walked the boardwalk between Owen Beach and the boathouse but other then gulls and ducks, their was a Pigeon Guillemot. A Harbor Seal was following me.
At the Gig Harbor overlook the young Bald Eagles were flying around, all 3 of them. I think I posted about the nearby nest before. I didn't see the adults yesterday. Eventually I'll get some pics of them on my flickr account. A Red Tailed Hawk was in a tree nearby.
