Tweeters,
Today on our monthly census at Green River Natural Resource Area we heard and observed one possibly two seperate Hammond's Flycatchers at Kent Ponds today. They were seen inside the ponds that is usually off limits to the public. One near the Northwest forest and the other near the diversion pond; The two areas being far enough apart to suspect they were not the same bird. I know that Dusky Flycatchers are a more likely species in the lower bushes and trees with the Hammond's prefering conifers, however, after close observation and attentive listening they were definately Hammond's. Of course with many flycatcher's the song is most helpful with and id. Long primary feathers, eye ring, pale yellow breast, and a very slight crest. The song never ending with the higher clearer notes of the Dusky. A nice bird for the valley. Also noted was a Western-wood Pewee, and Pacific-slope Flycatcher. Roger observed a Cinnamon Teal from the grassy knoll as well today.
