Hiked the Umptanum Creek Trail in Yakima Canyon this AM (Sunday 5/18).? Best bird of the day was an Ash-throated Flycatcher in the riparian corridor about 1/2 mile in from the highway.? This is the extreme northern end of its range.? Other good birds included at least 8 Yellow-breasted Chats singing all day, abundant Lazuli Buntings, 4 Lewis' Woodpeckers, several Western Tanagers and Bullock's Orioles.? Beavers are hard at work re-engineering the creek.? No ticks (so far) and only one rattlesnake.?
