thanks to everyone who provided input on the mystery bird in our yard in Olympia (photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/89985360 at N00/). Five votes were for Lazuli bunting, 2 for brown-headed cowbird, and 1 for an Indigo bunting. For a size cue the feeder it is sitting on is one of small Wild Birds Unlimited feeders that they give out when you join their "frequent seed buying" program. There was a female black-headed grosbeak on the feeder when the new bird arrived, and it was substantially smaller than the grosbeak. Hopefully it'll return and I get get better photos.

also, two days ago we discovered a mourning dove sitting on a nest in a willow in our neighbor's yard.

thanks again,
Robin
