hola, all:

the river appears down several feet from its high point a couple days ago,
but viewing across the river remains poor because of heat waves. four
chicks remain, and they appear to be three females and a male. the nest is
starting to 'unravel' on the front edge. the male brought a snack to the
kids around 1645. mom left him alone for a good two minutes and ran him
off. when the young charged her her foot slipped through the sticks and she
had to grab the root that forms the outer edge of the nest/scrape. one
hopes the young can stay on the rock and not go over the side before they
are able to fly (three weeks or so). primaries and secondaries are nicely
forming on all young and the largest bird already has a clearly visible
terminal band on the tail.
