Subject: [Tweeters] Wenas White Headed Woodpeckers....just an opinion

I've been going to Wenas on and off over the past 15 years maybe made it to 9-10 Memorial Day Campouts plus many other trips on other occasions and every year without exception the White-Headed Woodpeckers have been in and around the campground area. And while I make no claim to be an expert on Woodpeckers, birding, or the Wenas area it seems to me the woodpeckers do a fine job of fending for themselves.

Please know that the Wenas Campground is not just for birders and is used a lot more by ORV campers - who are not always so bird/wildlife friendly - so it doesn't make sense to "mark off " their nesting areas. It will just draw attention to something the "non-birding" Wenas ORV users normally don't even pay attention to and may cause more harm than good from vandals. Although most ORV people are respectful and nice, over the years I have seen some of the damage some of these folks have caused just to be cruel and mean to "marked" wildlife sites.

Just a thought but hopefully no one will mark the nesting site and expose it to human danger.

(ps.. ORV= off road vehicle)
