Yesterday I spent a short time at the fill. In the area southwest of the main CUH building I heard a loud avian squawk followed by a heartstopping explosion of a ringnecked pheasant from an nearby thicket. The bird flew rapidly into the woods along a low trajectory.

Alas, no blue winged teals appeared for me.
