Subject: [Tweeters] Barred Owl Takes Crow

Crows are a primary food source for Barred Owls here on Bainbridge Island.
Most of the nests I climb have crow feathers in them.
Several years ago in October when I was trapping Northern Saw-whet Owls, I
heard a crow scream. Upon investigation, there was a Barred Owl perched.
It had apparently missed the crow.

Subject: [Tweeters] Barred Owl Takes Crow

Jim Messer of Yacolt, WA recently told me he saw a BARRED OWL take a
live American Crow as prey. This was somewhere in northern Clark
County. Jim's photo and description of this is online at:

I knew Barred Owls were aggressive, but was somewhat surprised to hear
they could successfully nab a crow.
