and then there were three:

the smallest and trimmest of the four peregrine falcon chicks has left the
nest as of yesterday, tuesday the 27th. haven't found anyone that saw it
leave and no one has seen him, so whether it was a planned exit or not is
unknown. the three remaining were subjected to close scrutiny by an osprey
in the early afternoon for twenty minutes or so. after circling the nest
site several times the osprey landed in a nearby tree and was subjected to
fierce stares by the eyasses. eventually the osprey flew off downstream.
why mom and dad tolerated this intrusion is not clear.

viewing conditions were a bit better and the young are often easy to see
from the lower viewing platform, especially late in the day while the sun
gets closer to the horizon. there is a lower parking lot so trekking down
and up the hill is not necessary.
