At Lord Hill Park yesterday there was a red tailed hawk carrying something
huge and really struggling to carry it. As it passed close by it was
carrying a still moving Aplodontia! I suppose there is a moral in the story
for the Aplondontia, like, what the heck were you thinking messing around
above the ground during the day? My students were separated and writing in
their journals and one was visited by an anxious Wilson's Warbler who danced
all around the spellbound student, no doubt nesting nearby. There was a
mowing machine working the pipeline trail, and a small group of crows was
following behind it, picking up the pieces of snake and other tidbits the
machines delivered.
