The RED CROSSBILLS stop at my homemade creek quite often during migration.
This happens at differing times each year. I have thought this to be unusual
enough but today they had a few young birds that were hardly more than
fledglings along. Puzzled, I Googled some information and found that both
circumstances are within the norm for this species. A pretty good article on
this is here; http://www.birdweb.org/birdweb/bird_details.aspx?id=457

New today for this year was a SWAINSON'S THRUSH. Earlier this week and again
today I had a WARBLING VIREO, which was a first time yardbird.
This year I have more than usual PURPLE FINCH, BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK and
WESTERN TANAGER.

Staying home ain't all bad!
