Hello all,
On this beautiful sunny warm fall day we checked the western end of our
county - Detour road has some flooded pastures but only found 1 Killdeer, 1
Greater Yellowlegs and 4 Wilson's Snipe there. Lots of Red-tailed Hawks have
moved into the area.
At the overlook pond were 3 Great Egrets, 8 Dunlin, 4 Long-billed
Dowitchers, 1 Least Sandpiper and 12 Killdeer. At the delta was lots of mud
with 20 Killdeer and 17 Dunlin. Lots of gulls including 5 Bonaparte's and 1
Herring. 3 Common Loons out in the river among many Western Grebes.
At the "Poop Piles" were approx. 2500 blackbirds - Brewer's, Red-wings,BH
Cowbirds, Starlings. Could not find a Rusty, Tri-C or YHD.
Off the Two Rivers HMU were many waterfowl including a Eurasian Wigeon. Over
100 Tundra Swans are now at Casey Pond with a variety of waterfowl. Below
Ice Harbor Dam was our first of fall Barrow's Goldeneye with a pair of
Common. Also 2 Red-breasted Mergansers in among the Commons. On the island
was 1 Greater White-fronted Goose along with several Canada's, 6 Great Blue
Herons and 18 Am. White Pelicans. The Spotted Sandpiper was in his usual
spot at the base of a spillway. Above the dam were 48 Western Grebes and not
much else.
Low numbers of Canada Geese around - they haven't come in yet.
