On Saturday Nov 1st, I participated in a Skagit Audubon field trip lead by Keith Wiggers.? While at Rosario Head at Deception State Park we saw a flock of 15 Cattle Egrets fly overhead.? Quite a fun viewing!
?
On Sunday Nov 2nd at 3:30 PM at the intersection of Sullivan Rd and Bayview Edison Rd, I was scanning several groups of blackbirds for the Rusty Blackbird that had been reported on Fir Island several weeks ago.? The many smaller groups of blackbirds eventually merged into a single group of at least 3000 birds.? Unfortunately, female Red-winged Blackbirds?comprised approx 50% of the blackbirds so that if the Rusty was in the flock, I was not able to separate it from the sea of red tones.? While scanning the birds, however, I did find a Yellow-headed Blackbird.? It was a first year male as the bright yellow of the chest/neck did not extend onto the head.? While in the area, I also saw 25 Black-bellied Plovers flying overhead, 2 Rough-legged Hawks, and a juvenile Coppers Hawk.
