Sorry I can't help much other than to say, if you hear a periodic "beep"
that you'd swear was some sort of electronic device, that's a Scops owl. I
was on a kibbutz for several weeks during August of 1999 before I figured
out that a bird was making that sound. But that may be seasonal-when I was
at the same kibbutz in early July I almost never heard them.

Subject: [Tweeters] Owl recordings for Israel trip

Hi,

I found out my husband has hired a guide for one day from the Lotan
Kibbutz (we will also stay one night there).......I am wanting to find some
Owl vocalizations to download. I don't have much time on my computer to
listen (not that I have found a site with these) and would prefer to have
them on my ipod to listen to.

I should have been searching earlier for recordings of Middle Eastern
birds, but this is our third trip to Israel, and I simply had given up ever
getting to bird on any trip there.

We have also decided to take along my old scope, and am hoping the tripod
fits into my suitcase. I have a shoulder mount somewhere, but am concerned
it will raise suspicions taking something like that into Israel, even if it
is in a suitcase (NOT the scope)

If anyone knows where I can purchase any mp3s of Owls or birds of the
middle east, online, please do let me know....My husband is anxious to see
some owls!
