Subject: [Tweeters] Question about late season VAUX'S SWIFT

Tweets - buried in the middle of my Marymoor post was our sighting of a
single VAUX'S SWIFT. This seems extraordinarily late for this species.

The big Birds of Washington (Wahl, Tweit, Mlodinow, eds.) doesn't list late
dates, but does show one dot in early November in their bar graph.

So have there been other mid-November or later sightings of VASW in
Washington?

It would seem that this species should completely clear out of the state by
mid-October, and the likelihood of such an aerial-insectivore staying around
would be very low, due to loss of food supply. Maybe the fact that we
haven't had a hard frost yet in the lowlands has allowed one to survive here
longer than usual.
