On November 12 I walked out to Fields Riffle Park (undeveloped sno. co. park ) just downstream from Snohomish to see what the 'current events' were. The river very high and most all of the park underwater. Many logs in the river zooming by at about 6-8 knots - future Puget Sound driftwood.

An interesting juxtaposition of birds: 6 GOLDEN CROWNED SPARROWS bunched together in a low clump of willow, a single bright MARSH WREN up in the blackberries, and 50+ PINE SISKINS feeding on Teasel seedheads sticking out of the floodwaters.

Earlier in the day I came across a bunch of shorebirds in flooded fields on the old Snohomish- Monroe road just south of Snohomish - 50 + DOWITCHERS and many more DUNLINS - the farthest inland that I've seen the latter.

On November 13 there was a single WHITE FRONTED GOOSE with 9 Canada Geese in the NE corner of the 10th street boatlaunch on the Everett waterfront, drinking water from a puddle on the tarmac. Soon after I saw 10 TUNDRA SWANS (calling) fly over the Legion Park arboretum at the north end of Everett.

Today saw a single KESTREL on telephone wires just south of Rotary Park (seems to be a regular spot for them) and several TRUMPETER SWANS in the nearby flood-puddled fields. Have also been seeing a few groups of WESTERN MEADOWLARKS along the River Rd. between Everett and Snohomish lately - they're pretty regular there and always nice to see in these parts.
