Today I took what I thought would be a quick trip to check on the
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK on 124th near Woodinville. It was still there on the
telephone pole. I took a slight detour going home (it's only 2 miles from
home) and found a juvenile RED-TAILED HAWK perched in a tree right next to
a bridge. It let me take all of the pictures I wanted and just sat there
staring at me. As I was packing up my equipment I noticed a smallish bird
land it the top of a maple tree. My binoculars told me it was an adult
NORTHERN SHRIKE. I managed to get 4 images before it flew off. It was nice
to be able to compare it to the juvenile I photographed the other day at
Mountlake. I added a picture to my website.
