As my husband and I drove toward Toysmith wetland, driving north we
observed what we identified a Rough-legged Hawk sitting on the top
rail of the cedar rail fence surrounding the wet land. It was eating a
rodent of about mole size. We were able to stop about 25 ft away and
watch as it completely devoured it's prey. At one time it needed to
stretch it's body way up to pull off a particular piece of it's
treasure, and in so doing exposed about five or six inches of it's
feathered legs. It was quite a site.
