If you see people intentionally or unintentionally harassing the swans and
you have the opportunity, ask them to stop and explain why. I have spent
the last several years educating kids and adults about the swans in
Carnation (and have 2 kids of my own) and have realized that there is a lot
of truth in the adages "boys will be boys" and "people just don't stop to
think what they are doing". The good news is that most of the time, if you
explain WHY some things are bad, people get it. Not always and not
everyone, but most of time. It certainly is worth the effort to try.
