today after early dismissal from school, i decided to head down to the
mouth of the cedar river to see if i could find the palm warbler.
there were hardley any birds on the trail until i came across a small
grove of trees where i heard a yellow-rumped warbler calling. i
stopped and started pishing and almost immediately a warbler popped
out flicking its tail. it was the PALM WARBLER. i watched it for a
long time and eventually it kind of dissapeared. i looked around for
a little while without luck. when i was about to walk away a big
flock of bushtits, chickadees, and kinglets came in to the trees above
me. thats when i saw anoher warbler. then another one. the first
one was an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER. the second was a little more
exiting. It was a MACGILVERY'S WARBLER. this one came up within 5
feet of me and i had amazing looks. the orange-crown flew off with
the bushtit flock. but both the palm and macgilvery's stayed in the
same spot. the trees that had everything were up the trail past where
all the planes are just on the other side of the busy street.

i didnt have my scope so i wasnt able to scan the gulls very well.
but there was atleast one western gull and a couple pure
glaucous-winged gulls. there were also both kinds of goldeneye,
hooded and common mergansers, and a few buffleheads.
