Hi all,
?
Mason County is guaranteed a new YBR record as IDIE ULSH has COMMON NIGHTHAWK, CASSIN?S & HUTTON?S VIREO, not to mention a? NORTHERN FLYING SQUIRREL. The squirrel will act as a tiebreaker in case YBR gets any more entries from Tahuya with 66 species.?
?
Also assured of a record is Green Lake residential, where BILL CLARK has added #52? a MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE to go up over the old mark by two.
?
One more bird would tie the record for WILSON CADY as of last report?and come to think of it, that was a month ago?in Skamania County.? Cady has many highlight birds but the 87th one was also a MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE.
?
In Ballard, SCOTT HOSKIN continues to blaze along with 73 including GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, TRUMPETER SWAN, WESTERN SCRUB JAY, TURKEY VULTURE, & BAND-TAILED PIGEON added recently in the late fall.? Hoskin is 12 over the old Ballard record but still 6 short of the overall Seattle Residential mark held by Flynn/Benevente from West Seattle in 07.
?
Licton Spring?s record will go up 3 for sure as JOSH HAYES got an assist when his son spotted #38 and asked what it was: a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK.? Nothing YardBirdRace likes more than the young folks noticing birds.
?
JOHN TUBBS has taken the Snoqualmie R record and raised it at least 9 to at 61 as of last report, with the last two birds being a calling GREAT HORNED OWL and a tan-striped WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.
?
ANDREW EMLEN, the originator of the acreage yard-type, is excruciatingly? close (within two)? to the record he set in ought 6 in Wahkiakum County.? Emlen has 82 species including a recently seen WILD TURKEY.
?
And almost as painful, CAROLYN EAGAN is within 4 of the Port Ludlow mark, with 95 species including WHIMBREL and NIGHTHAWK.
?
And to express it in a different way, GRACE & OLLIE OLIVER are at 98% of the Kirkland Residential record as a SAVANNAH SPARROW become #57.? In case anyone doesn?t want to do the arithmetic, that is very, very close, but on the other hand, December is no doubt the harshest month of the year for getting a YardBird when you need one.
?
And despite BLACK SWIFT and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, BOBBY & CURT PEARSON will need a very productive December (read that 4 species) to tie in Hillman City, Seattle.
?
DON & SANDY MCVAY, of Upper Queen Anne, are at 49, 6 off their Seattle-overall winning pace of the first year of YBR, with PURPLE FINCH & HAIRY WOODPECKERS.
?
Perhaps to no one?s surprise, PENNY ROSE has continued to ratchet the Seattle overall mark ever higher, and was at 129 at last report for her Working-Yard at Discovery Park, including ?NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD, HERMIT WARBLER, MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD, GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and many others.
?
And ROSE could conceivably win in the?competitive West Seattle Residential race despite a deactivated entry that is already closed out at 56 which included BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER? & PURPLE MARTIN.
?
In Brier Residential, TAYLER BROOKS is still 10 behind her record mark of 70, but not for lack of highlights as Brooks has COMMON REDPOLL, Hammond's Flycatcher, Western Screech-owl, Spotted Sandpiper and Black Swift.

Prizes, which are somewhat dependent on whether there?s a Christmas season this year at the Pike Place Market, will benefit bird conservation.? If there are prizes (meaning if I'm not in need of a Federal?bailout come Jan) they will include some memberships in WA Ornith. Society.?
Thanks all,
