A Ruffed Grouse flew into the Hazel nut tree Tuesday morning. This is
the first time I have seen one here since last winter. With my
binoculars, I could watch him walking up the tree branches. His
movement was generally in the direction of my large birdbath, but if he
was tempted, he resisted and eventually flew back into the forest.
The American Goldfinch are still here, and the Oregon Junco have returned.
This week, also, a female Flicker has been visiting the large suet feeder
with the woodpecker bar in it. There have been several male visitors
at different times, but this was the first female I have seen at the
feeder for sometime.
