Tweeters,

This is probably only of interest to you NA listers, and sorry to
stretch the state content, again. The subject line is not a baseball
score but our species tally for the past 30 hours. We just got home
from Barrow, AK. Lots of Glaucous Gulls up there and some other fine
feathers.
Yellow-Billed Loon.
Short-tailed Shearwater
King Eider (lots)
Steller's Eider (a few)
Snowy Owl
Snow Bunting
Hoary Redpoll
Black-legged Kittiwake
Ivory Gull (2)
Ross's Gull (9)

The Ross's we saw yesterday were the first ones reported for Barrow
this migration. The local Hummer you out to the end of Point Barrow to
see a Polar Bear Dude (John Tidwell) claims that as soon as one shows
up, many will quickly follow. If you want to see them this year you
have maybe two weeks minus one day. These birds are gut-wrenching
gorgeous. We didn't expect their pink color to be so profound. I have
one of John's photos of a Ross's flock from two years ago that I will
forward on to anyone who wants to see it.

Did you know you can get to Barrow and back from anywhere in the lower
USA for 20,000 Alaskan Frequent Flyer Miles?
