Hello Tweeters,
I was one of the few birders from Washington who made the long trip to
seeing the Wood Sandpiper.I also was prepared to staying overnight in case I
would not saw this bird do to bad weather and at times high wind.I got real
good direction from
The birder John Sullivan who found this Shorebird on September the 30th at
the huge Wetlands Fern Ridge.Khan Tran give me the tip to going early to be
at Fern Ridge at 8.00 AM,what would mean that I had to leave at 3.00
AM.well I did not leave to 6.00 AM, arriving at 11.00 AM.I Was greeted in
the Parking lot (as I forgot his name) and told me that the bird was seeing
before 8.00,so all the many birders who showed up was still waiting. He also
give me direction where to go .As you all about reading that there are all
day volunteers to watch the parking lot.I must say that is a big commitment
Thurs all the birders who coming to see this bird and I thank every one for
this gesture to make birders welcome in Oregon.
The call came at around 2.30 that the bird got found by one birder on the
trail close to the platform. We all got so exited and going to find this
bird, but it was quite hike to this area because approaching we all did not
found this little bird. But than came the call that the Wood Sandpiper was
found on the original site where he was found many times before. All the
birder who stayed around had great looks at this rare mega Shorebird.I not
only saw this bird real good ,but also took many photos.I don't name all the
birds what I saw during the long 4 hour wait ,since birders already reported
them .I again saw birders who we met at the Redwing in Olympia.
Cheers Ruth Sullivan
