On Monday, the NORTHERN HAWK OWL was still at the spot about 1/2 mile before reaching the Meadows Campground (after turning off of the road to Harts Pass). I met another birder who was already there, Art Wong, and we both walked up and down the road scanning the burned area for about an hour before finding the owl perched in a tree right beside our cars. We had great views of the owl flying, hunting, perching, fluffing his feathers in the snow.

Thanks to Khanh Tranh for finding this great bird and letting everyone know.

Along the way I saw a couple DUSKY GROUSE, and up at Slate Peak 2 MERLINS and a GOLDEN EAGLE before the snow, fog, wind, and cold got too much to see anything and figure out what it might be.

Before the wind picked up it was quite beautiful, with yellow and red foliage mixed with green, and fresh snow sparkling in places.
