Subject: [Tweeters] question about land access

Howdy,

First, the American Golden-Plover was still present at Emerald Downs, Auburn this morning (11 Oct).

My question is about access to this field. I know birders have been walking out to get a closer look at the birds here, but it doesn't look all that "public" to me, though it's not posted (the access road to the pastures just to the north does have a no trespassing sign from Emerald Downs, FWIW). I'm still relatively new to the state, so I don't know if it's general knowledge that birders have permission to go out in these fields, if it's actually public property, or whatever. What's the situation here?

On a related subject, I've read a lot of reports from state parks during the winter that are actually closed during that time. Are birders permitted to enter the parks on foot when they're otherwise closed, or is this a case of the closure not really being enforced?

Thanks,
John Puschock
