RARE BIRD ALERT for a NORTHERN HAWK OWL at Harts Pass in Washington,
a possible CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER in North Vancouver, and a
BROWN PELICAN in English Bay, the latter two both on October 5th.


Sightings for Thursday, October 9th

A juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER and juvenile STILT SANDPIPER
were present again at the Iona Island sewage ponds in Richmond. On
the Iona south jetty, 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 2 PARASITIC JAEGERS were
seen. Nearby along Ferguson Road on Sea Island were 25 GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

Two more LAPLAND LONGSPURS were at the Maplewood Conservation Area
on Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver.


Sightings for Wednesday, October 8th

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER and a STILT SANDPIPER, both juveniles,
were found at the Iona Island sewage ponds.

A late RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was in the pond under 34B Avenue
where it crosses Highway 17 in Delta, and 7 EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVES were along 96th Street south of Highway 10.


Sightings for Tuesday, October 7th

The NORTHERN HAWK OWL, present since September 27, was still near
the Meadows Campgrounds at Harts Pass, in the Washington Cascades
south of Manning Park.

Shorebirds of note near the foot of 96th Street on Boundary Bay
in Delta, as well as hundreds of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, included 2 PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS, one AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER,
a juvenile RED KNOT, 4 MARBLED GODWITS, and a late BAIRD'S SANDPIPER.

GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE popped up in several places, with= 29
along Ferguson Road on Sea Island in Richmond, 25 along Highway 10
near 88th Street in Delta, and 8 more at the Highway 17 pond in Delta.

At Iona Island in Richmond, 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 2 PARASITIC
JAEGERS were seen along the South Jetty.

An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was on Winfield Drive in Abbotsford.


Sightings for Monday, October 6th

Deer Lake Park in Burnaby produced an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD, a BARRED
OWL, and 20 RING-NECKED DUCKS on the lake.


Sightings for Sunday, October 5th

An unconfirmed report of a possible CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was received
from the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver.

Several reports were received of an immature BROWN PELICAN in English
Bay off southwestern Stanley Park in Vancouver.

Three GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen at the odd location of Yew
Lake in West Vancouver's Cypress Provincial Park. Two more were at Jericho
Park in Vancouver.

Noteworthy birds at Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Park included a BARRED OWL,
a RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER, a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and a late WESTERN
TANAGER.

Another WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and 12 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were
at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.


Sightings for Saturday, October 4th

A very late WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE was at Cecil Green Park on the University
of BC campus in Vancouver.


Sightings for Friday, October 3rd

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, birds seen included 4 BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERONS, 10 SANDHILL CRANES, 28 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE,
and 2000 SNOW GEESE.


Sightings for Thursday, October 2nd

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary.


Sightings for Wednesday, October 1st

A NORTHERN SHRIKE, the first report of the fall, was observed at Colony
Farm Park in Coquitlam.

A late NASHVILLE WARBLER was seen on eastern Lulu Island in Richmond.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen along Ioco Road in Port Moody.


Sightings for Tuesday, September 30th

Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts, WA produced a MOUNTAIN
CHICKADEE on the beach at the lighthouse and at least 3 PARASITIC
JAEGERS chasing the BONAPARTE'S GULLS offshore.

Two SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS were at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.


Sightings for Monday, September 29th

A bird believed to be a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was observed briefly on a
telephone wire along 16th Ave near 187th St in Surrey. Confirmation of
this bird is greatly desired.

A BROWN PELICAN was seen on the Steveston jetty at the mouth of the
Fraser River.

An OSPREY was seen from Vancouver's Lions Gate Bridge.

A PARASITIC JAEGER was harassing gulls off Lighthouse Marine Park in
Point Roberts, Washington


Sightings for Friday, September 26th

A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER, very rare in fall, was seen at Cecil Green
Park near the UBC Anthropology Museum.

A BROWN PELICAN was on the water between Cates Park, North Vancouver
and Barnet Marine Park, Burnaby

A late OSPREY was roosting near the foot of Pemberton Avenue in North
Vancouver.

Three PARASITIC JAEGERS were seen at Lighthouse Marine Park on Point
Roberts, Washington.


Sightings for Thursday, September 25th

Four PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS and six AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS
were seen on the turf farm on 72nd Street in Delta. Nearby, at the foot of
96th Street, 50 SNOW GEESE flew past.

Elgin Heritage Park in Surrey produced a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.


Sightings for Wednesday, September 24th

Six SANDHILL CRANES, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, and 400
early SNOW GEESE were at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.

25 RING-NECKED DUCKS were present on Surrey Lake on 152nd Street in Surrey.

The WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was still at the Maplewood Conservation
Area in North Vancouver.

Three PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS, 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS, and
2 unidentified GOLDEN-PLOVERS were at the 72nd Street turf farm in Delta.


Sightings for Tuesday, September 23rd

Near the foot of 96th Street in Delta, two PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS, an
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, a RED KNOT, and 2 MARBLED GODWITS were
seen among thousands of shorebirds. Two more PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS
were seen at the turf farm on 72nd Street.

The BROWN PELICAN was still present off Beecher Street at Crescent Beach
In Surrey.


Sightings for Monday, September 22nd

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continues at the Maplewood Conservation Area
in North Vancouver.


Sightings for Sunday, September 21st

There were several BROWN PELICAN sightings, which may have involved some of
The same birds. A flock of 8 was seen flying south near Steveston in
Richmond. In addition, one was seen off Crescent Beach in Surrey, one
off the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta, and two off Iona Island in
Richmond.

Two MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES and a PARASITIC JAEGER were seen at Lighthouse
Marine Park, Point Roberts, Washington.

Another MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE was visiting a feeder in the 7900 block of
Angus Drive in Vancouver.

Two BANK SWALLOWS were present in a flock of BARN SWALLOWS
Along 40th Avenue west of Highway 99 in Surrey.

Five RED KNOTS were seen in a large flock of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS
in fields off 41B Street south of Deltaport Way in Delta.


Sightings for Saturday, September 20th

A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was with 100 KILLDEER, 11 AMERICAN GOLDEN-
PLOVERS, and one PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER on the Turf Farm along 72nd
Street in Delta. Many AMERICAN PIPITS and a LAPLAND LONGSPUR
were also in this field.

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER, the first of the fall, was reported in a flock
of PECTORAL SANDPIPERS at the foot of 96th Street in Delta.
