Hi Tweets,

Heather and I birded our way to Fort Worden in Port Townsend today. First
stop was Point-no-Point, during a great changing tide, but the number of
water birds could be counted on one hand - 3 surf scoters and a DC
Cormorant. Surprising to me was the fact the Point Wilson at Fort Worden
produced almost the exact same results later with 1 Pelagic Cormorant, 1
Harlequin Duck and a highlight of a Steller's Sea Lion 10' off the point.

For reasons unknown to me, there was a great concentration of water birds
off of Foulweather Bluff. With almost no wind, the viewing conditions on
the water were perfect. This is nature conservancy property (see Opperman
for directions north of Hansville) and is located on a beautiful coastal
marsh with stunning views of the Olympics towering over Hood Canal.

3 Common Loon
3 Pacific Loon
100 Surf Scoter
20 White-winged Scoter
4 BLACK SCOTER - one of my best spots for consistently see these sea ducks
9 Western Grebe
2 Red-necked Grebe
40 Horned Grebe
1 EARED GREBE
2 Pigeon Guillemot
12 Common Mergansers
6 Red-breasted Merganser

A great day to be out on the sound!
