Arriving at 3pm at Paradise is never a good idea. The new visitor center had just been opened and there were almost mid-summer like numbers of people. Nevertheless, the Skyline Trail up to Panarama Point on this cold afternoon did not disappoint: About 0.5mi before the point, Sam Walker and I had 4 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES feed right by our feet. Just another 0.2mi up, there was a twirling flock of about 120 more of those fancy-looking birds. Other notables along the trail were a large Black Bear, a Townsend's Solitaire near Panorama Pt and a male SOOTY GROUSE falling on its face trying to reach some red berries on a bush with delicate branches just 200yds up from the visitor center.
