>From the Seattle P-I, 10/15/08: Road to White River Campground still open

Because of mild weather the road from Highway 410 to White River Campground
in Mount Rainier National Park will remain open until Nov. 3, three weeks
longer than originally scheduled, the National Park Service said.

This extension will allow visitors access to some of the popular trailheads
along this road for fall hikes. The area had been scheduled to close for the
season on Monday (Oct. 13).

The park service said the road could still close for the season before early
November if enough snowfall accumulates in the area, and seasonal access to
Sunrise has been closed. The agency warned visitors to be prepared for
sudden storms and carry tire chains because of rapid weather changes that
can occur during this time of year.
