swmbo and i went out this afternoon (10/15) for a drive around stillwater
and back around sikes lake, across the street from what's now camp korey at
carnation farm. swmbo saw a merlin (probably taiga) on a wire in the flats
south of 100th (st/ave, forget which) about a quarter mile past the big red
barn at the corner of 100th and west snoqualmie valley road. next, after
seeing a pair of bald eagles near the horse farm, we saw a female american
kestrel. after checking the edges of sikes lake (which yielded a belted
kingfisher) we noted a nice redtail in a snag overlooking the south end of
the lake. we turned onto carnation farm road and headed toward camp korey
and stopped to get a look at the front side of the redtail and were rewarded
with a buzzby of the redtail by a nice peregrine. the redtail briefly left
the snag to quarrel, thought better of it and returned to the snag and the
pergrine headed of to the southeast toward the river. so three falcon
species in a span of less than two miles.

had already had an accipiter at stillwater, probably a sharp shinned hawk,
but the look was too brief to be sure.
