Birders,

I received copies of two photos of the BLACK VULTURE at Kincolith, BC by
E-mail from Delmer Duncan, who lives in Kincolith and took the photos. With
Delmer's permission, I am posting these photos on my FLICKR page for at
least a short time, at http://www.flickr.com/photos/wcweber .

Kincolith is a village of the Nisga'a First Nation, located at the mouth of
the Nass River north of Prince Rupert. It is accessible by road, but it's a
fairly long drive even from Terrace.

The bird was first reported to Delmer by other residents on about October 1,
and was still there at least as of October 14. Mike Toochin saw and
photographed it on October 12. The bird is hanging out right in and around
the village, and has apparently been feeding on fish entrails dumped along
the Nass River.

This is a dramatically out-of-range bird-- about 1800 miles from southern
Arizona, which is the closest point in the species' normal range. There are
3 previous Black Vulture re3cords for BC, all from the Okanagan/Similkameen
area, but two of these are sight records only.

Many thanks to Delmer Duncan and to Peter Cross of nearby Greenville, both
of whom reported this bird to the Vancouver Rare Bird Alert.
