I was also at the Fill this morning. I saw many of the same birds reported today including the two female Buffleheads and all of the Yellow-rumped Warblers. My addition to the list are two female Northern Pintails that were near the congregation of Wigeons, Coots and Gadwalls in the SW corner of the Fill. I found two congregations of Golden-crowned Sparrows. I missed the Winter Wrens, but saw the Western Grebe and found two more. My highlight was a flock of 12 Greater White-fronted Geese in the main pond at about 8:15 am.
?
I saw the shorebird in the pond and thought it was a Snipe at first, but I didn't get as good a look at it.
?
I noticed that the apples on the tree, in the middle of the south side of the Fill, had apples that were chewed from the outside.?They were still hanging on the tree. I wondered if some bird did this. Closer inspection showed Yellow Jackets busy at work chewing on them. If this is of any interest!!! I did eat one of the unchewed apples, it was excellent.
