Hi Tweeters,

Today was the Kent Ponds census. In the south tower locale was one adult Northern Shrike. I later birded Frager Rd and 204th st where I saw one juvenile Northern Shrike. And a possible third at Boeing Ponds, also a juvenile. This might be the same bird since during the first sighting of the juv. shrike it was flying in over Green River from the direction of Boeing Ponds and it could easily have flown back that way. I also saw my first Washington State Praying Mantis at Boeing Ponds.

Two adult Snow Geese were in a field across from Boeing Ponds along with about 60 Cackling Geese and about 10 Greater White-fronted Geese. I ran into Roger Orness on 204th and we scoped an immense flock of mostly Cackling Geese which held one more Snow Geese. My guesstimate was 3,000 geese but Roger said there must have been at least 1,000 more than that, I wouldn't be surprised if we both underestimated. It was impressive, and I wonder where will they roost for the night? They won't all fit into Boeing Ponds that is for sure.

I believe there are links to info for both sites at Rainier Audubon Website.
