Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 23. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 503-233-3976.

On October 18 several large flocks of SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying
southward over the Willamette Valley. Along the coast amazing numbers of
BROWN PELICANS and HEERMANN?S GULLS are being reported. Up to three
SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS are now being seen on the North Spit of Coos Bay.
Others were reported during the week from Florence, Tillamook Bay, the
Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove, and at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

On October 16 a MOCKINGBIRD was in Brookings. A SWAMP SPARROW was seen
October 20 near Ophir.

A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen October 21 at Broughton Beach near the Portland
Airport. A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was at the Fernhill Wetlands October 19. A
late SWAINSON?S THRUSH was near McMinnville October 21. An EMPEROR GOOSE was
at Stewart Pond in Corvallis October 22. A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen October
21 in Sutherlin.

On October 18 two KITTIWAKES were at The Dalles Dam. On October 21, 73
COMMON LOONS, 8 HORNED GREBES, 10 EARED GREBES, and seven SURF SCOTERS were
on Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend.
