Ted,
?
It's either a juv. Sharpie or a Juv. Coopers.? I'm gonna lean toward Cooper's, but just barely.? Since an average Cooper's is around 16 inches and this one doesn't fit that according to your comparison to a MoDo.? But the breast strips strike me as thin and clean, and the eye does seem a little forward on the head.? It's a shame we can't see the end of it's tail.? A squared off end would clinch it for a Sharpie and a more rounded end would point to a Coopers.? Either way, nice yard bird!

We've had a hawk in our yard picking off the poor Pine Siskins and my wife and I are debating on the ID of this bird.

Here are some photos:

I have more pictures but this represents the angles of view I was able to get.? I am only just beginning on my journey towards better rapture recognition but it seems to me, based on behavior (preying on birds and watching the hawk in flight) and visual clues that this must be a Sharp-shinned?Hawk (juvenile?).? It is slightly bigger, maybe an inch or two?than a?Morning Dove?so it seems?a bit taller than a Sharp-shinned should be, but maybe this isn't unnusual.? One of us, my wife or I, I won't say which, proposed it may be a Broad-winged Hawk.? Based on recent posts here on tweeters though it seems unlikely.
?
Anywho, thanks for the help if you are able.?
?
We are off to Alder Lake for some birding and sunset photography.? Have a good bird day.
