Thanks Craig ... I'll look at all these points tonight after work ...
personally I'm learning quite a bit from this one bird ID ... thanks
to all who are offering suggestions, and not just to what he is but
also to why he's NOT another bird ... and to HOW to look at a bird
... I've never seen a Chipping, nor any of the others mentioned, or
whether juvenile plumage would show central dark spots or not, or tan
eyebrows versus white ... and I've also never disected a bird this
close so I'm not trained to look at all these little points ... so
I'm really finding this all very helpful and educational ...
oh, another Ohio birder did email that he's a Swamp, so in 4 Ohio
responders there's 2 Chippings, an American Tree, and now a Swamp ...
but they're not giving any "why" they say its that bird ... that's
too bad ... I would like to know why this last responder says Swamp ...
just using the books and Google, on my own I had come up with the
Chipping, Clay, Swamp (and I kept throwing the Lark Sparrow in there
for some reason I now cant imagine) ... but the grey under my guy's
chin made me hesitant about him being a Chipping and his cap wasn't a
strong enuf color ... and the Swamp wasn't colorful enough and didn't
have strong lines inbetween the markings ...
I must head off to work ...
and again, I know I've said this alot ... but THANKS ALL ...
Lyn
