Dear Interested Community Member, As you are aware, there was a recommendation before the Board of Park Commissioners
to amend the Supplemental Use Management Guidelines for Green Lark Park to remove
authorization for waterskiing tournaments on the lake.
Last week the Board of Park Commissioners unanimously recommended that we
discontinue permitting the waterskiing tournaments at Green Lake and I concur with their
recommendation. The urban landscape in the surrounding area has changed such that
Green Lake, which is a small, heavily-used lake in an urban area, is no longer appropriate
for this type of activity. Given that all other motorized uses, aside from safety and
maintenance boats, have been banned from the lake, it is time for waterskiing tournaments
to be moved to a more appropriate location. Therefore, I will be moving forward on the
amendment to the Supplemental Use Management Guidelines for Green Lake Park to
remove the provision for waterskiing tournaments.
The Board of Park Commissioners public review process stimulated a very passionate
and thoughtful dialogue on this issue. I wanted to take this opportunity to personally
thank you for your participation in this process and your thoughtful input on this issue.
Sincerely,
Timothy Gallagher, Superintendent
