Birders,

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD, only the 4th reported sighting for the Vancouver area,
was found about noon yesterday (October 30th), and was seen by many birders
this morning, October 31st. The location is along 64th Street in Delta near
28th Avenue-- not far north of the foot of 64th at Boundary Bay. The bird
was very active, but photos were obtained by Peter Candido this morning and
by Mike Tabak and one other observer yesterday.

Today's observers included yours truly, George Clulow, Peter Candido, Lloyd
Esralson, Mark Wynja, Mike & Sharon Toochin, Mike Newey, John Vooys, and
several other birders whose names I missed.

The kingbird was first seen briefly today about 8:20, then disappeared until
about 9:15, after which it remained in view most of the time until I left
after 10:00. It perched briefly on the telephone wires along 64th Street,
but most of the time it seemed to remain low in the small trees (hawthorns &
crabapples) along either side of 64th, where it sometimes disappeared from
view for several minutes. At one point, the kingbird flew to a small tree in
the field NW of 64th Street and 28th Avenue, and remained there for at least
15 minutes, frequently flycatching.

The bird does not seem very vocal, but was heard to give the "twitter" call
both yesterday and today.

It seems possible that the kingbird may remain in the area for a few days,
so good luck to all who look for it!

After I left 64th Street, I briefly visited 96th Street, and found the
GYRFALCON perched as usual on the communications tower west of the south end
of 96th, plus one EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE along 96th just south of Highway
10.
