I encountered nice numbers and variety of songbird migration at the Fill this morning (though nothing really rare). I had been looking for some migration activity at the Fill for the past few weeks, with not that much success, until Connie Sidles told me where to look - all along the trees in the SE corner of the main loop, and also along the trees and brush along Mary Gates Drive and Surber Drive.
The Fill, in certain spots today, was just hopping with warblers. I found a total of about 48 species this morning, including 5 species I've never seen at the Fill before, denoted with a *; some highlights below:

- Warblers - one small bush had about 10 Yellow Warblers in it, and I saw, conservatively, around 20 Yellow Warblers total. Also, several Orange-crowned and Wilson's Warblers and Common Yellowthroat. I ran into Neil and Carleen Zimmerman, and Neil pished up a really nice mixed flock that included a Black-throated Gray Warbler* and a Townsend's Warbler*.
- Green Heron - an adult and a couple of juveniles
- Black-headed Grosbeak* - 2
- Evening Grosbeak* - a flock of 7 flew overhead
- Band-tailed Pigeon* - 2 perched in a conifer along Surber Drive
- Vaux's Swifts - many were flying about and calling above the Fill
- other mixed flocks birds - several Warbling Vireo, a Red-breasted Nuthatch, and a fleeting look at an Empidonax, possibly a Hammond's Flycatcher
- shorebirds - I have not seen many at the Fill recently, and that continued today, though I did see one Spotted Sandpiper
