Hi Tweets,

I apologize for not FWDing some news earlier.

John Notis found a LITTLE BLUE HERON at Smith & Bybee Lakes in North Portland, OR on Monday Sep 1.

There was a lot of debate as to whether it was a juvenile Snowy Egret, but as more birders got closer and some got photos it became a positive ID for a juvenile LITTLE BLUE HERON.

While it was settled in the minds of some birders, it became official when Tim Janzen and Shawneen Finnegan bushwacked out to a good vantage on Tuesday morning. Shawneen got conclusive photos also.

The LITTLE BLUE HERON was still being seen as late as this morning.

Smith and Bybee Lakes are off Marine Drive in North Portland. (Google maps showes it well) From WA, take exit 307 (Marine Dr) and head N until you see the Parking lot on your left (large sign at the entrance). You would need to walk to the end of the asphalt trail where there is a "blind" Look to the NW among the dozens (40-60) of Great Egrets for this noticibly smaller white juvenile.
