Hi Everyone,

I filled in for MaryFrances Mathis on her ELWAS (now Eastside Audubon) Marymoor walk this morning. There were four of us, and after a somewhat slow start, we had a pretty birdy walk. By far the best bird of the morning was a LEWIS'S WOODPECKER which we watched for a good ten minutes. I believe this may be a new bird on the park list.

The bird was seen from the east side of the boardwalk loop through the marshy area. Roughly halfway between the lake observation pier and the end of the boardwalk section of the trail, the bird was seen to the east. There is a large tree easily visible from the boardwalk with a number of dead branches/snags at the top, and the bird was at the very top for the whole time we watched. It eventually flew off to the southeast and went out of sight.

The second most interesting bird was a FOX SPARROW (Sooty) seen in the brush along the east side of the birding loop, just past (south of) the dog area. This may be the first Fox Sparrow of the season seen in the park.

We had four species of warblers: Black-throated Gray, MacGillivray's, Yellow and Orange-crowned.
