I haven't been keeping track of all the sightings of this invading
species, so I don't know how significant this is, but Netta Smith and
I saw a pair of Eurasian Collared-Doves at Dungeness, Clallam County,
late this morning, perched on utility wires on the bluff just behind
the Oyster House at Dungeness. When we came back in from kayaking at
midafternoon, one was calling loudly from the same area. We then
drove up onto the hill but couldn't find them.

The only even slightly uncommon shorebirds we saw were two juvenile
Red Knots roosting with a big flock of Black-bellied Plovers,
Sanderlings, and Short-billed Dowitchers, also a few Western
Sandpipers, a Dunlin, and a Black Turnstone, all at the tip of Cline
Spit. Other species seen included Black Oystercatcher, Whimbrel, and
Least Sandpiper. The gulls were the big show, perhaps 3,000
California Gulls, another 1,000 Glaucous-winged to Western types, and
a few Ring-billed and Heermann's Gulls and Caspian Terns. At Ediz
Hook, roosting on the log booms, there were at least 500 Heermann's
and 1,000 California Gulls.
